Dedicated in May 2011 the Veterans Plaza serves in remembrance of the valor and the sacrifices made willingly by our military veterans, both in times of war and times of peace. The Plaza is an incredible educational tool for children and adults to learn about the military heroes who are part of our nation’s history and recognize those who continue to serve and will serve in the future. The Plaza brings the community together to recognize U.S. military veterans responsible for protecting and ensuring our inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is our hope that you will visit and find this Plaza to be a site of reflection, commemoration, and inspiration.
The mission of Veterans Plaza of Northern Colorado is to Honor and Support military veterans and their families, and to Educate others on the history and experience of U.S. military service.
To Honor and pay tribute to all US military men and women who have contributed to the freedom we enjoy today, our organization presents the names of nominated veterans on our south monitor. Any veteran can be nominated by self-nomination or nomination by either family or friends. Any US military veteran, from any state, may be honored by having his or her name listed at no charge.
To Support local veterans we have our Vet-to-Vet fund. This is a fund that goes directly to local community veterans for specific and often time-sensitive needs. To date, we have given more than $50,000 to local veterans and their families struggling with mortgage payments, car payments, medical bills, childcare, funeral costs, and even groceries. The recipients of these funds are first vetted by local veteran-serving organizations and are referred to us for a quick turnaround.
To Educate others on the history and experience of U.S. military service, the Plaza hosts events on our grounds and elsewhere in the community. Our largest event is during Memorial Day weekend where we host dozens of local veteran-serving organizations, read the names of fallen veterans from America’s wars, and perform a ceremony that centers on the mixing of soils from battlefields from around the world with our Colorado soil.
